What to Expect on Your First Phone Call With Your Wedding Photographer

So you’re thinking about booking me to photograph your wedding – yay! Whether you're ready to lock it in or just want to get a feel for who I am first, you might be wondering: what actually happens on that first phone or video call?

Here’s the lowdown – friendly, no-pressure, and totally optional.

First things first: You don’t have to do a call

Let’s be real – phone and video calls can be a bit stressful, especially if you're neurodivergent, anxious, or just not a phone call person. Good news: you never have to hop on a call if you don’t want to. I’m very happy chatting by email, voice notes, or good old-fashioned text.

But if you do want to say hi and get a feel for me as a real human (yay!), I offer short and sweet calls – either a normal phone call or a WhatsApp video call. If you need a different platform like Zoom, just let me know – we’ll find what works best for you. You’re in control.

How to book a call

Easy peasy – just send me a quick message or email, and we’ll find a time that works for us both. No forms or complicated booking systems. Most calls are between 5 and 30 minutes, depending on how much we chat.

I'll always send a reminder 5–10 minutes beforehand to give you a friendly heads-up, so you’re not caught off guard.

What we’ll chat about

The intro call is really relaxed and low-pressure – it’s not a formal interview or anything like that. It’s just a chance to:

  • Say a quick hello and put a face to the name

  • Chat about any ideas or plans you’ve got brewing for your big day

  • Tell me what you're hoping for from your photos (candid? group shots? minimal posing? go wild!)

  • Ask me any questions at all – about the booking process, timelines, or how I handle different situations

  • Optionally (but always welcomed!) share a bit about your love story – I never get bored of proposal stories 💍

Already seen my prices and galleries?

Yep! You’ll usually have seen all the details about my packages and example galleries before the call, either on my website or via email. So this isn’t a hard sell. It’s just a real, human check-in – a chance for you to feel confident that I’m the right fit.

If you decide to go ahead after the call, I’ll send over your invoice and deposit info to lock in your date and package.

Common worries? Totally normal

If you're thinking any of the following, you're not alone:

  • I don’t know what to ask!” – That’s okay. I’ll guide the convo.

  • “I’m awkward on the phone…” – Me too! We’ll keep it casual.

  • What if I’m not ready to book yet?” – No pressure at all. I'll give you space and time after the call to make your decision.

  • What if I need more time to think or ask questions later?” – Always welcome.

Final thoughts

At the end of our call, I hope you feel like:
✨ “I’m in safe hands.” ✨

That’s the goal. Whether you book me or not, I want you to feel listened to, understood, and empowered to plan your wedding your way.

And remember – however we chat, I’ll always meet you where you are. No judgment, no overwhelm, and definitely no cheesy sales scripts.
